Beyond Pork Knocking - Civil Rights Abuses and Environmental Degradation in Guyana

For those of you who have come looking for the pork knocking video, a quick scroll down the page will show you that it's still there.

In the meantime, however, I would like to fulfill the charter of of Guyana's Overstream and give my new found faithful something to really think about. Many of us know that Guyana can't really be that pristine with all the gold mining that takes place in the interior. Many of us, have no clue how much of it really goes on and how destructive it really is.

Peacejournalism.com announced an hour ago, the publication of "All That Glitters", a report on the mining-related damage done to Amerindian communities and the surrounding environment in Guyana. This due not only to lax mining laws, but also the inability of only 11 officers to enforce the existing laws all over the country.

Please read this report thoughtfully and join me in discussing its contents.
