The work was halted a little over two years ago but an agreement was reached between the two governments to complete the bridge following a visit by Brazilian President, Luis Ignacio Lula Da Silva two years ago.
The Brazilians have agreed to complete the facility.
According to a source, Brazilian officials yesterday met with authorities of the Region Nine Democratic Council and held discussions which centered on the recommencement of the bridge project.
At present, only the foundation and a slight elevation are visible on both sides of the Takatu River .
The bridge, when completed, is expected to significantly increase trade between the two neighbours.
Nationals from Guyana and Brazil travel freely across the borders with limited immigration requirements.
